John Anthony Thomas

Sound designer, musician, recording engineer and creative facilitator based in Cardiff

I work across film, theatre, live performance, commercial projects and community arts, creating sound, music and participatory experiences that bring people and stories together.

My work includes sound design for productions and organisations including BBC, S4C, NHS Wales, Welsh Government, Green Man Festival and the University of South Wales. Recent projects include Our Lady Blodeuwedd (Anushiye Yarnell, 2025) and Octopws Sanau Od (Glust i Glust).

Alongside sound design, I work as a recording engineer and producer with artists spanning punk, experimental and electronic music. As a performer, I have toured internationally as a member of Cate Le Bon's live band and am a founding member of Islet, a collaborative group whose music has been released and performed internationally. I also create solo electronic work under the name Ya Yonder.

Community and inclusive practice are central to my work. I deliver workshops, mentoring and music projects with young people and adults, including through Tŷ Cerdd's Bwthyn Sonig programme, which supports learning-disabled artists to develop and share their creative voices.
